Indoor Air Quality Testing FAQs

Common air conditioning, heating and general HVAC questions we receive from our residential customers in Orlando, Florida.

What is indoor air quality testing, and why is it important?

Indoor air quality testing involves assessing the air inside your home or building for pollutants, allergens, and other contaminants. It’s important because poor IAQ can lead to health issues like allergies, respiratory problems, and long-term conditions, as well as affect overall comfort.

What are the signs of poor indoor air quality?

Symptoms include frequent or persistent allergies, coughing, or respiratory issues, headaches, musty odors, excessive dust, visible mold growth, or water damage. If you notice these signs, an IAQ test can help identify the cause.

What contaminants are typically tested for during an IAQ assessment?

Our IAQ inspections typically, test for common pollutants include mold spores, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2), oarticulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and humidity levels that contribute to poor air quality.

How long does an indoor air quality test take?

Our IAQ tests take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your home’s size and the type of testing required. Some advanced tests may take longer for detailed analysis.

How can I improve my indoor air quality and reduce humidity levels?

  • Regular Filter Changes: Use high-quality filters and replace them at least every 1–3 months.
  • Proper Ventilation: Ensure your home is well-ventilated and that your HVAC system includes adequate fresh air intake.
  • Dehumidifiers: Consider a whole-home dehumidifier or a stand-alone unit if humidity levels routinely exceed 50%.
  • UV Lights or Air Purifiers: These can help reduce bacteria, mold, and other pathogens in your HVAC system.

How often should I test my indoor air quality?

It’s recommended to test your indoor air quality every 1–2 years to ensure a healthy living environment. However, you should consider more frequent testing if:

  • You or your family experience allergy or respiratory issues (e.g., coughing, sneezing, headaches).
  • You notice musty odors, excessive dust, or signs of mold growth.
  • ou have recently moved or completed renovations, as new materials can release pollutants like volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • You have pets, smokers, or household members with asthma or other respiratory conditions.
  • You’ve had water damage or leaks, which can contribute to mold and bacteria growth.

Regular IAQ testing helps detect hidden pollutants, ensuring cleaner, safer air for your home.
